Let's say "you" have a 32 yr. old son living in a crack cocaine house. He is on a 2 yr. probation for a minor felony. He has never been clean for longer than 10 months since he was 16. He, of course, has been in and out of numerous treatment programs. If you were asked to address the family what would you tell them their options are? The family understands the disease and is educated. Yes,they do work their own program and attend a support group. Yes, they have forgiven their son, support recovery and pray daily. Thanks, Pat

Posts: 863 (12/08/07 08:20:27) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	i will say this, "unless the addict is on the slab there is hope!" the only time death is rock bottom is when your done! as long as there is breath there is hope. there was many times when folks thought the only way i would stop was then,heck some even took bets on me staying clean,so far as to drop dope by my mailbox,back gate,even my car door tryin to make me slip up so they could win the bets. heck i may even live to get very old,i have already lived longer than i thought i would. keep praying it works!everyday when we wake up there is another chance,the proof is we woke up!

We witnessed a member of our support group die of cancer, and he told us he wished he had attended sooner. He spent 10 yrs. trying to fix,mend,rescue his heroin addicted daughter. It was so sad, she wasn't even at his funeral. TAKE CARE OF YOU!! mlg

Wow, lucky to have that option. I started using when I was 12, and quit when I was 28, never got any treatment at all. I agree with the others, tell your "friend" to do what they can for themself & work through their anxiety about death, it is part of life & it'll happen to all of us. The fact I would die if I continued using... I was in a coma for over a week, had many things wrong with me... had to have help afterward to do anything including going to the bathroom or cleaning myself up... It literally took mr two-3 months to get well enough to go out of the house on my own... so that I could of all things dabble with using a little more meth... "Oh Ill just smoke it... just a little... cuz that isn't actually ingesting anything... no worse than Smoking" yeah right... Wound up back in the ER & ICU for another 10 days of touch and go whether I'd get out of there alive... THAT WAS IT... One night in there I cried to My late Mother & even Prayed to God To let me' That I just wanted to live... so that I could enjoy what I have left of this life Without trying to escape it constantly by tweaKING IT AWAY... So year REAL fear of the END & Death... I didn't want to die... not KNOWING WHAT if anything comes after this life... THATS HOW I narrowly avoided hitting bottom via Death... It was seriously so close I didn't believe I'd live for a couple months...
