I don't see this topic much regarding staying clean: working out. Hard. Releases endorphins, and just makes you feel so much better about life. Well,
it does for me, anyway. Running (or walking) 2 miles or more, a few days a week, along with alternate days of some type of weight training. Clears your head,
and for the inevitable weight gain from not doing the drug anymore, it works wonders.

Exercising and working out helped me alot ! It still does. That, good food, good sleep and I will say it again, good sex (if you are lucky enough !) :-)
I focused alot on aerobic activity at first, then increased the weight training. Looking back, those were some of the best times. I would come hope and put on my favourite music dvd, excerise, recover - and sing to the world. Now I mainly walk to maintain and excerise with some intensity some evenings. Now, with my sister. So it's still fun :-) Walking is very relaxing too. Morning sunlight. Natural flora and fauna. It's all good. My early recovery days was spent this way. Food, excercise and sleep. Getting back to basics. Cleansing. Reteaching my body and my brain how to regulate it's natural rhythm with those natural regulators of rhythm, Endorphin & Co. That type of thing. |

Ha Zepher - not lucky enough for good sex but I do enjoy a good run on the treadmill as well as pumping some iron and Debbie is right - really releases
endorphins ... I see the guns developing for me and the pounds shedding .. watch out ladies ..

I was never "skinny" when I was using, but I ballooned to just over 300 lbs when I quit. I'm 5' 10, but still! I have major, chronic
depression, so that didn't help things either. Anyway, I got rid of my car - went "green" and became a vegetarian and I've shed 30 lbs. so
far. I walk everywhere and if my destination is too far away, I take the bus. I HATE that I'm so flippin fat. In the beginning, I just substituted food for
meth. Fat lot of good that did me.
Exercise is absolutely necessary. www.thenext24.blogspot.com |

I do not know how I would have managed that first and even second year without our trampoline.
I just LOVE to HOP !! |

I am having a great time working out on my yoga ball - it doesn't require the grace you think it would - if my clumsy azz can get on one, anyone can. They
allow for ultimate stretch .
For those with joint or muscle conditions (raises hand) - it's perfect. Stretching and warming up those muscles is a MUST ! And if you are working out hard - don't worry if anyone thinks you're twacked - just keep going. Everyone wants us to lay down and go to sleep and eat and then when we do they want us to DO something and then when we do - they think we relapsed..........*sigh*

(yes...we have tailbones )

Exercise is great!! It's definetly my last great buzz. I feel good, and even go away from it smiling. Now that's the good stuff!! Those endorphins are
powerful little buggers!!
I'm not in very good shape right now, definetly overweight, and not doing what you'd call a "hard" workout, but I still DO IT, and try to do it regularly, so that all counts!! My neurologist was on me to do weights, but I do cardio, too. I joined the 12 Week Program at the YMCA, which helps me to keep track of what I'm doing, and there are trainers (free, or not extra with membership) around to help out, too! They have weights and cardio machines in the same little area that I can use. Recently I added in some more weight machines. I also started swimming laps. I'm thinking about adding in water aerobics, too. That's really good for troubled joints, I think. And definetly, the thing about exercise is, when you do it, and feel good, there's no guilt!! You can feel good, and feel good about it!! What a change from the past! |

Great topic.
I agree and have found exersice imparative to my mental health. For me it's cycling. I ride 150-200 miles a week. Whenever we can, we ride charity rides. Every Wednesday I ride for 2 hours with a group of women, and they are FAST. They really push me to my absolute limit physically. And I love it! |

In my opinion, the benefits of exercise are multiplied by not smoking...

IMO life is hard to quit, especially via smoking related illness. A nicotine cessation resource that has helped a number of us quit...and stay quit. http://whyquit.com/

Yeah I know ya'll.
Man I quit for about 9 months, but made the mistake of thinking I could just have 1. Just 1......ha ha ha............. it was off to the races again. I've got a script for chantix, it's what I used the first time. I just need to go fill it. |

I signed me and my wife up at Bally's 2 weeks ago and have not
gone once..Now I feel I brought on an added expense to the house. I know it would benefit both of us but getting started is the biggest hurdle right now... |

I've quit smoking several times, for right now I gotta have one evil habit. I'll quit awhile, then I kind of socially smoke awhile, then I'm back
to doing it all the time. Right now it's about 1/4-1/2 pack a day, hubby is on my butt for it constantly. I go outside to do it.
It is true, if you aren't sucking on em constantly, they will go out. (I don't know how to make that not sound dirty). It's something new they put in em so when people chuck em out the window, or go to sleep smoking, they won't start fires. Went and walked on the treadmill for a half hour the other day and it kicked my butt. So out of shape.....alot of it IS smoking. And being in my 30's. I notice after a month I'm already getting some butt and stomach flab back on me. I've always had a butt (a big one), but I'd lost weight and was pleased with how skinny my stomach was, how I could see my bones (why I would regard that as sexy, I'm not sure). Not anymore, I'm a chunk! So I'm gonna keep doing sit ups. Damn this fat! |
