According to HUD regulations, any one that is subject to a state sex offender lifetime registration requirement MUST be prohibited from receiving Section 8 federal housing assistance from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for life.
Additionally, anyone who was evicted in the last THREE years from a federally assisted housing for drug related criminal activity MUST be denied HUD Section 8 housing assistance. However, the drug offender does not have to wait three years if the offender completes a drug rehabilitation program.
In the mandatory rules of HUD a sex offender is banned for life but a drug offender that has been evicted from federal housing is only banned for a maximum of three years.
There are no mandatory HUD rules to prohibit assistance to an illegal drug offender without being evicted from federal housing.
Should an illegal sex offender be treated differently than an illegal drug offender?
