Speedfreak Emeritus
Let's take a look at what is happening on this thread.
Robby is having problems, he has never denied that. He is using maladaptive behaviors, making bad choices, and obviously getting some of the KCI regulars a bit pissed off, annoyed and angry. OK
I don't feel any obligation to drive his ambulance but I'm going to take the liberty to address a few things I've noticed throughout this whole ordeal. You may or may not agree, and that's just fine. I have no expectations.
I have known Robby personally for two or three years, maybe more. I have been with him in the rooms, at coffee and lunch numerous times for fellowship, and on this website ever since he first began posting here.
No denying the fact that he has some serious problems, meth addiction is just one of them. But I have never known him to be a liar. Of course, that all depends on how the word "liar" is defined. If I say I'm going to do something, and then I don't do it, for whatever reason, am I lying? If so, then I, and everyone else is a liar.
But, as far as I know, Robby has never lied to me, or this forum, about what has already taken place.
I'm wary of cute, trite phrases, like, "How can you tell a meth addict is lying ? His lips are moving." Phrases like that might look hip and clever, but they are often more destructive than helpful. Many meth addicts lie, but not all. Many meth addicts have over-the-top sex around the clock, but not all. The rules for me are not the same as the rules for you, or him or her. What applies to one may not be the same for others.
Next we have a plethora of judgmental, holier-than-thou behaviors from a few on this forum. Not many, but a few are really quick to condemn, judge, take other people's inventories, and find fault, flaws, and shortcomings.
Finding fault in others is one of the easiest tasks there is. Finding solutions, compassion, empathy, understanding, patience, and grace requires a bit more character strength.
Finding fault in Robby's behavior is about as easy as it gets.
"How does that make you feel?"
Another worn out, and misappropriated phrase: "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, same on me." I don't have much use for that style of thinking anymore.
I'd rather trust you a hundred times and be wrong ninety-nine times if the hundredth time means that the trust has now been fulfilled. Because in cases like this, trusting costs me nothing. But it could mean everything for Robby. I'd rather err on the side of trust any day. I will lose nothing, but might help Robby gain recovery.
His turmoil is causing none of us harm, money, problems or any other kind of detriment.
If anyone has a problem, they can click the page closed on the computer. This w2hole scene is completely cyber, and as such, it means that anyone who comes to this website does so as a volunteer. There is no coercion. There is no penalty for those who choose to avoid the drama.
Today is the first of the month. The SSI checks are distributed today. It is not uncommon to have as much as one-third of residential clients bolt from treatment between Thanksgiving and New Years.
I've lived and worked in San Francisco for many decades. Yes, I know, many of you think we're weird, strange, bizarre and more than just a little "F-ed UP."
Ok. The place Robby was staying at is on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay. You can google it. Treasure Island, or T.I. is a converted Navy base that leases facilities to various non-profits. Robby has been called on many of his stories, and judged harshly by those who didn't understand.
Does that make you feel better?
And FWIW,
Grumps - not one PM today
Niner - Yes, I am a professional, I don't feel I need to post my credentials, but I will if you think there is a need to verify.
