I spent my entire ten year addiction to meth on a rented farm,
In a beautiful very old farmhouse...
We were raided several times by DEA, SWAT, LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT, FBI was there once,
And sometimes I swear, even MIB were there.....

After Gramps was finally busted big time,
The place was burned to the ground....*unfit* to live in again...
We were court ordered to pay 18,000.00 in Restitution, to the property owners.
When I got out of jail,
I had to move to a small apartment in town.
Two doors down lives a member of our local SWAT team.
He WAS in my home.
He saw me at my worst..
Don't know if he was there the time they caught me buck naked,
Or if he was there the time I was so scared that I peed on the floor...
But, he was there.
I knew he knew.
It has been over 8 years now that we have been neighbors.
This summer I mustered up the courage to FINALLY attend the yearly block party.
I brought stuffed peppers that I had grown and stuffed myself.
I could not believe it when my neighbor from the swat team actually put my peppers on his plate!
And then , when I left,
He made it a point to say to me (our first actual exchanged sentence)
*Your peppers were very good* and he smiled and said good bye to me.
I felt like I had arrived....
And the other amazing milestone in my recovery was that the owners of that property that we were paying restitution to,
Contacted us,
And told us that
They did not want any more of our money,
That they only wanted us to succeed in life and to be able to get by easier...
That they had been to the courthouse three times and could not find the right path in having our restitution stopped...
And could I possibly have a go at it to figure out how to end it?
So I was able to find the right channel,
And I have been told that this has never happened in this county before...
And while the authorities are sifting through and trying to figure it out,
My former landlords are giving us back the hundred dollars each month that we give to the court.
We have paid 8,000.00 of that 18,000.
I am amazed, at both the fact that my neighbor ate my stuffed peppers AND the fact that my former landlords do not want any more of our payments...
