Apparently the night before last he consumed more than a case of beer and i dont know how much crown.
He is 20 years old and supposed to be going back to college in January.
Anyways he had someone else driving his car and got on top of the car while it was moving and fell off it. Apparently, this is called "car surfing". I had not heard of it. Apparently he is not good at it.
Anyhow he was taken to the local hospital, where i work part time after his surfing fail, and was then taken by ambulance to a larger hospital where he remains. He will be there several days. At first there was talk of transferring him to an even larger hospital to operate on the facial fractures but they decided they are small and will heal properly without surgery. He will be in the hospital he is at, 60 miles from here, for several days anyways. He fractured his skull around his eye orbits and cannot open his eyes as they are so swollen and black. He has another fracture in his skull that is small and a small hemorrhage in his brain. He is not brain damaged. It was a wonder at first as he was so drunk. He told the doctor his name was "Lunchables". But he is alert and aware now. He also broke his nose and collarbone. He apparently will not be a professional car surfer at any time in the future. This was my first time hearing of car surfing.
I am also worried because when he joined the guards i am alsmost sure he went off our Blue Cross that i have us on. Because he can have insurance through the guards. However, i do not know if he elected to take the insurance, although it was only a cost of $20 a month i believe. If not, we will be facing a $200,000 hospital bill when you include the ambulance ride and everything. Since he is technically an adult, if it comes to it, our best bet is allow him to assume the bill and file medical bankruptcy. If we assume it, we will lose our business or house or all assets. Either that or i can plan on paying about $2000 a month for the next 10 years. I can't do that.
I know i should be thankful he is not brain damaged or dead and believe me i am. But i would have been more happy had he not chosen to car surf. I was up all night last night from 2 am when i recieved the first call "this is the hospital and your kid is here you need to come right away" (theres a call that makes your stomach fall out) and all day and still could not calm down so my friend gave me a couple of xanax. I was stoned out of my mind til this afternoon, missed work, and have a hangover from hell.
If anyone wants to see the results of car surfing, email me your cell phone and i will send you a pretty picture of how your face looks after a failed surfing attempt.
(((((hugs and love)))) to all, please keep our family in your prayers or if you do not pray send up a good thought for us.
