Hemet Girlfriend,

Didn't have time to read all the posts, (Starfishy has a DATE TONITE, woo hoo,) but Hemet states: "I had to fund myself during active addiction (or attempt, anyway) and it really burns my asss that users get money from the government, especially now as a taxpayer in recovery. The state of WV (and I do not live there) is attempting to require all government assisted citizens to submit to random drug testing. " ------ WHAT A BRILLIANT IDEA!

That is going to be what we are seeing more and more of, over time, as hopefully our new prez sees all this money going to feed drug habits (probably would all add up to more than the AIG bonuses combined.) I'm ALL for it the testing. Unless a recipient of government funds, (MONEY THAT IS MINE AND YOURS,) has a medical condition that requires narcotics or synthetic amphetamines, they need to be booted off the system!!

I wholeheartedly agree with you on this Hemet, as I find it to be an atrocity that MY money going to fund someone else's drug problem? WTF??? You go sistah!!!

Some will argue that crime will increase, but I'd doubt it - who has anything to steal? I would not be surprised though if there was an increase in folks looking to get into drug tx programs because they can't afford the drugs anymore.

Sorry, sorta grabbed onto a post and didn't really read the rest, so if I'm outta line - oh well. . .

Now, if someone is in ACTIVE RECOVERY, that is whole different story. THAT I'll foot the bill for. And then of course, if the addiction has rendered the CITIZEN insane, well, we have to continue to support unless/until the addict either decides he/she is ready to work or is still able to fool the psychiatrist they see for ANNUAL or better yet, BI-ANNUAL examinations, (which also cost tax payers.)

This may sound uncaring or cruel, but it is really quite the opposite. Handing an active user a paycheck every month is like saying, "Hey, party's on us, have a blast!" Taken a little further, I also believe that it is in the addicts and society's best interest that those claiming checks for disability (be it mental, drug addiction, or even physical disability,) should be required to have a payee. That payee should only be paid for services by the government and not taken out of the tiny checks some folks get (depending on the state.)

As for Robby's recovery, perhaps he might show some more interest in recovering if he didn't get that check from Uncle Sam (US) every month. Necessity is, after all, the mother of invention. It pizzes me off that I have work and send my taxes, but what does the active drug addict have to do - collect MY MONEY AND YOURS to get high. Hmmmmm, money well-spend, huh?

Good posts, keep em coming!!!
