I'm all for reading books.

Including the one you posted.

But I also feel a great amount of benefit in seeing a professional therapist.
I know there are people who disagree and that's fine. It is quite OK for people to disagree on issues like this.

But I have a very good marriage now, and I can thank six different marriage counselors.

I also go to group therapy once a week and private therapy once a week.

I've been doing this for years and I feel it helps me greatly.

But I also realize that professional therapy might not work for some people.
Just like 12-step work doesn't work for some people.

To me, self-therapy would be like self-sponsoring.

I admire those who can succeed at all the emotional, cognitive, and behavioral trials we face without any form of outside help or support.

But for me, I'm thankful that I am able to avail myself of excellent help.

I'm a veteran and I get my medical and mental health care through the VA. I'm also employed full-time, so my employee benefits pay, or maybe I should say co-pay.
But in addition, I also pay cash to cover my portion of the co-pay. The point being, is that it is expensive, (kinda) but in my opinion, it is well worth it to work with a professional therapist.

Dan,

Your post says,
"can aid people of average mental health"

This is the KCI forum, right ?

How many people on this forum can be considered, "people of average mental health ?"
