I think that addicts, alcoholics, and just about anyone who survives maladaptive behavior becomes a bit cynical.
We looked for the magic potion and found the tragic poison instead. We were deceived by our own lust for something that doesn't exist.

Others might be musicians, sex workers, actors, artists and various people who are able to live in a bohemian or an alternative,
or seemingly glamorous lifestyle.

Casino workers, bartenders, carnival barkers and people of that ilk also tend to see life a little differently.

Those vocations or avocations allows a glimpse into the unknown world of darkness, and it's cousin, pretentious glitter and glamour.

The straight, square, conservative, modest, law-abiding, 9 to 5 cubicle worker doesn't see the steamier side of life on a regular basis.

I've often said that meth addicts have a tendency to become overly jaded very easily. I do.
I have to check myself on it with my sponsor on a regular basis.

Being cynical, jaded, overly skeptical and attitudes like that are not consistent with"Honesty, Open-Mindedness and Willingness."

They are the opposite of humility and compassion.

Altruistic motives should be a part of recovery. Being Thankful and Grateful helps us get over our cynical ideas.

That's how I see it.
