It's true -- recovery is rarely obtained by never running into an opportunity to use.

With illegal drugs, I think thereis more expectatin to "just stay away" and things will be fine. But with legal addictions such as alcohol, sex, food, gambling and so on the addict finds out very quickly that their drug of choice IS EVERYWHERE and sobriety won't be obtained by never leaving the house.

For an alcoholic, the drug dealer is in every grocery store, corner store and liquor store. Food addicts face their drugs of choice at work, at the store, even in their own pantries if they have families. A sex addict surely can't be expected to recover by never running into another human being with the apprioriately desired parts!

As has been said many times in many places, recovery is an inside job. Addiction, in my opinion, can't be arrested by avoiding the addictive substance. Why not? Becuase as soon as that substance is present, the plan has failed. It's just too hard to control our entire environment to insure sobriety. We have to fix US, not everyone and everywhere else.
