I think that every professional opinion I've ever heard was that you'd need to detox first before ever getting any decent help at therapy, too. You'd just never get any decent results otherwise.

Truthfully, what Tender, Suz and Danimal said is more than enough evidence of "why not" without hearing it from a professional, though.

From me.....I can remember, as a kid, wayyyyyyy before I ever picked up a drug of any kind.....sitting in a therapist's office with my arm's crossed, refusing to talk. I can't even imagine the way I'd have felt if I'd been forced to go there while I was on meth. There's no way I'd have volunteered anything truthful or helpful or good for my self. And it'd probably get me very defensive and suspicious. But that's me.

These days, I kind of wish I had some of those counseling opportunities back.....FWIW. But it's been years.
