Wife of an Addict
Sara wrote an article yesterday about Carly E. Morris, a woman who died after accidentally drinking lye at a meth house. (It was in a soda bottle, and two men have pleaded guilty in the case.) Here's what got cut from Sara's article because of space:
Carly's surgeon said he had never seen a patient with as much damage to her stomach and esophagus. He explained that unlike acids, which may burn one layer of tissue before stabilizing, alkaline chemicals such as lye continue to burn through layer after layer of tissue. The doctor said the lye had "liquefied" Carly's esophagus and that her stomach was about a third dead tissue. The chemical even burned through her trachea.
