I wouldn`t get rung out over the "god" thing . This issue is more to do with a reluctance to actually change the wording of the 12 steps which has been working for so long just the way they are. There`s a contingent that believes the steps should remain the same no matter how society [ and its views] change and there is some legitimacy to this idea.

You can even see if you read all that stuff the lengths they go to to present both sides fairly - then have representatives[gsr] from all the cma groups poll their individual groups - then all vote. Its a very inclusive process.

As far as the steps/meetings go - dont even begin to worry about that stuff. Its not a religious program and goes out of its way to make that point - even in the literature. Cma uses the AA "big book" though - i personally prefer NA which is full of meth addicts but has its own book "the basic text" and isn`t quite as routed in some of the archaic language that the big book is composed of , having been written in the 30`s.
