Omg lol that reminds me of something funny.....I'm an RN, too....
I've usually worked in the hospital, but I've cared for quite a few elderly, confused patients.
The thing that normally brings them back, is to see a baby, or a child, or a dog or cat.
We had an old farmer named Harry, who would curse and yell, because he wanted to go and check the cattle. I discovered the way to calm him was NOT to insist he was wrong, but to go along with it. Maybe it's wrong, it's a lie, of course....but I would tell him...don't worry about it Harry....we went and checked them, they are fine. You could SEE visible relief was over his face. He would ask about things, and so I got to know the story.....I knew to check over by the creek that the fence wasn't down.....and the black white face cow was pregnant.....and doing great.
At some point, I learned the trick, if someone tried to hit you, you could say, "don't! I'm pregnant and it will hurt my baby!" Generally this was very effective, and the person would apologize and want to feel the baby, ask how far I was, etc.
This one old lady, was trying to beat me up, and I said, "don't! I'm pregnant!"
She says, "I hope it dies! It's the devil's baby!
Lol oh my...
