Lisa,

I've seen people become different people on Alcohol.

I believe (but am not sure) that the story of Jekyll and Hyde was actually his examination of his own alcoholism.

People can have endless debates over whether or not Alcohol, Meth...etc. reveal hidden flaws or change people...

The simplistic view that i reject is that "it ALWAYS reveals stuff"

Often, this may be the case.   But other times that i've seen, it really does seem random.

We ALL have every behavior available to our minds. And in some people, chemical interventions like a lot of booze open up a HUGE range of possibilities. In others, a small range.

My bottom line is: In some human beings, Alcohol can enable ANYTHING to happen. And this can have nothing to do with who the are when they aren't drinking.

edited to add:   I will say my default is to assume that the person has been sublimating some kind of pain.    And to be open to helping them express it.   But I have seen exceptions to the rule.
