"I don't meant to sound harsh, but he needs to hear that he can do it."

You don't sound harsh as much as you sound frustrated...

Think of it like a person who as an infant, never had a mother, and never learned that they are capable of being loved....

As an adult, it would not matter how many times you told that person that you loved them, there would always be a part of them that would not be able to believe you, because one of their core-beliefs is that they are "unlovable" as a person, and everyone knows that something that is unlovable, cannot be loved.

Until Rob believes that he can overcome addiction, you can tell him you "can do it" a million times and he is not going to believe you in his heart.

Robby, when I hear you say that you can't control your cravings, I believe you.

When the day comes when I hear you say that you can control your cravings, I will believe you.

You are open and honest about your feelings and I respect that about you...In other words, I trust you.
