Loraura....

I totally get what you are saying.

Here is what I have observed over the last 10 years.

They were already living in that house when we moved into ours.

Their daughter was about 3 and the son about 5 at the time.

The parents (mom is younger than the dad...the dad looks to be in his early 60's...the mom maybe 45 or so)

When the kids were 3, 4, 5, 6 years old...they ran around naked in their yard. Sometimes in the sprinkler...sometimes just playing.
Innocent enough at that age....but, how do you know some perv wasn't taking photos of them and putting them up on some kiddy porn site?
Modesty kicks in around age 6. So, I'm thinking it was the kids who decided to put clothes on.

It is not uncommon for them to still be playing outside at 11 or 12 oclock at night. On a school night.

The parents seem to be very laid back. When the kids were little....they had every Fisher Price castle, house, slide yard toy that was made.
Those items were replaced with a trampoline, swing set and basketball hoop. Perhaps to the point of being overindulgent.

I am totally speculating...but, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that she home schools them.
Not that there is anything wrong with that. I've just never seen them waiting for the school bus like the rest of the neighborhood kids.

The dad works....sometimes. He was helping to build a house down the street...which is now finished.
Maybe he is retired.

All in all....I sort of get the impression that they are cool with whatever.

The only real interaction we have ever had with them, we told them we needed to trim some trees that were growing over into our property.
The dad told my husband that he could just chop them down if he wanted to.

He never offered to help, wasn't embarrassed that he wasn't taking care of keeping them trimmed back.

So....we took the opportunity to chop the suckers down...so we wouldn't have to deal with them again.

I could be wrong....but, sort of think the situation with the son might be the same kind of thing.

Like "oh...ho hum....the little dear has taken to smoking pot now....oh, well...he's just exerting his independence"

And at that point....Abbey becomes the nosey b*tch that lives behind them.

If he is flopped on the couch stoned out at age 20....I don't think it will be because I didn't tell them.

I have honestly had a difficult time with this.

It takes a village to raise a child.....but, I think the child might be living with the village idiots.
