I know people who go as far as to taking low dose amphetamines for long periods of time.

Myself I've been a MMT patient in the past (but ended up relapsing) although plenty of people do long term detox's on long acting opiates like that. I've known more than a share of people that kept their addiction/dependancy taking short acting opiates as well. You won't get the same effect as IVing heroin but it sure is something that would put a bandage over the chemicals lacking in your brain at the moment. Problem is it makes it a lot harder for the indigenous system to start working properly again, which is one of the main reasons people advocate against medically assisted recovery in terms of taking long acting opiates.

I'd imagine it's same deal, different chemical. I'm sure even hardcore speed users not producing dopamine and neuroephineprine anymore would feel somewhat more 'normal' if they took low dose or low potency drugs. I'm a big believer in harm reduction and in that sense it's great, just don't be 'delusional' about it, your still taking the same chemical and it still gets to your brain the same way. IV use of anything has a lot of adverse effects and I'm pretty sure I experienced all or most of them first hand.

Hope this helps.
