I'm getting ready to head out to the annual picnic/campfire meeting that our little 12 step group has every year.
For several years we all met at a fairly large pond at a member's house so people could fish, but last year we decided to move it to a nice little lake about 10 miles out of town. His place was a little out in the boonies, and more than one person got lost trying to get there!
Last year we had about 35 folks show up, not only local but from several 12 step groups close by. We have one fellow who hauls his grill out there and does all the cooking (burgers and hot dogs), and then everyone brings a covered dish. Our 'chef' is one of the rare cases where he was court-ordered, is now off probation, and it's a joy to watch his growth in recovery and see his willingness to pitch in where ever he can
The weather is perfect today, there will be more fantastic food than the lot of us can eat, fishing poles cast out, catching up with old friends, and then a campfire meeting at dusk.
I never thought I could ever have 'fun' without chemically altering my mind, but I have more fun now than I ever did loaded!
Everyone have a relaxing and enjoyable evening because I sure will!
