I just smoked my last cig and I am going to try to quit. I just recently started exersizing and I figured I should try and get even more healthy by quitting. I
got lots of hard candy to suck on when I crave a cig, but not sure what to do when I stress or somethin. I am really scared to let go of smoking...kinda like I
was when I quit meth. I hope I am successful!
Any sugestions would really help. Thanx. |

Just quit. Seriously. I am at 2 weeks today.
You will do it when you are ready. I have quit 100's of time, but usually crumble at day 5. This time was different for some reason. Days 5-7 were the hardest. Even harder than the the first 72 hours. But I feel really good today. And I live with a smoker. You can do it woman! Check out that site that danimal posted. www.whyquit.com I am an information hound, so all there informaiton about nicotine as an addiction and what your body is going through withdrawal wise really helped me. Oh...and I watched Sex and the City DVD's the first 3 days nonstop, so I could be distracted and laugh! |

Ditto what Coffee says.......I have been quit for ove 3 years.....hardest thing I ever did......But the most rewarding along with quitting
meth..............Visit quitnet.com..They really helped me too......I had to keep my mind busy real busy........The first 3 days are rough but after that your
not phyically addicted to Nicotine....the mental part kicks in.........You must get in touch with your body cues.....they tell you when to have a
smoke.....Liek when yoru stressed or after a meal or with coffee or whenever....I did alot of DEEP breathing....It was like smoking but without the
smoke.........I chewed Boxes and boxes of Altoids...You could smell my breath from 10ft away..............Whatever you do......NOPE....Not One Puff
Ever................You can do it.......It is sooo worth it............the money you save...It is a win win goal.............Good luck Savannah!!!!!!!!!!

I have a hard time sitting down and readin stuff online...I know a lot about smoking and how to quit and what it does to your body. I Just have to have
determination (witch I do) and do it my own way. Fo me cold turkey is not reallt an option at this point in my life. I still have a lot of idle time and I go
to day treatment and they have smoke breaks like 5 times LOL. So if any of you have any personal sugesstions (like this one lady told me to take a big drink of
water when I wanted a cig) I would REALLY appreciate it.
Thank you guys for all the info and support....there are other things I need to quit too. In three years from now I would like to be at a healthy weight, eating better, smoke free, and just plain more healthy. |

Just look at it as an Adventure! A much needed , Overdue Adventure!! What I found after smoking for 30 years and then NOT smoking.....day in and day out ........was this....... I was numbing down most ALL of my Emotion and Feeling..... What? It is break time at treatment? What? I am not smoking now? Hmmmm.....How do I feel? What do I feel? ....and ... WOW!!!!! I FEEL and I am good with that. It was only scary for a little while and then, after FEELING the fear ....it was GONE. (just like my packs of camels......GONE )

Go Savannah! GO GO GO!
You can do it! I flirted with smoking in high school and quit @ like 17 years old, so it never really stuck. So I can't say I understand the physical need for it like some who have started in high school and never stopped. But seriously, you quite meth. The worst most ghastly thing ever to kick. I bet you will never feel as bad quiting smoking as you did coming down off meth. You can do it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I started smoking around the age of 18.
I stopped once... when I was 32, I used the patches! Then I did like one of the most moronic things I've ever done, I smoked another one.... AFTER 3 years! Just one at a bar one night... ...a friend was a smoker, and asked me to light him one while he was shooting pool. I did, got the taste and decided I would just smoke ONE! Then I thought, I would just bum off him when we were out... ...then the next thing I knew I was pulling in to a gas station to buy just one pack! I guess you know how that went. I smoked for another 10 years! My dear husband was/is a non smoker. He has never smoked a damn thing in his life, except house fires, grass fires, and the likes when he was a firefighter. He could just never understand how anyone could intentionally inhale smoke... for no good reason! Anyway, he took me to a hypnotise... got me on Zyban, purchased the inhalers for me, bought the patches, even asked me to leave... because his second wife had died of lung cancer in her early 40's and he thought he could "save" me from the same. None of which worked because "I" wasn't ready! The day my husband had his double organ transplant I QUIT! I made the desission that if a young 20 year old could die so that my husband could live, I could show my true appreciation by taking care of my own body. Respecting those presiouce organs that often fail others. That was Dec. 18, 2005. If I could do it twice... you can too! Just STOP! It's not easy, and I did use the patches for a few weeks. I wish you all the luck! Keep On Truckin' Lady |

You hang in there Diva...
...it can and does happen. Before you know it you will no longer feel ostracised, and pushed to the dumpster to smoke. Personally I think it's a shame that it's gotten that far in some areas.... ...but.... perhaps it was/is for our own good!

Savannah,
Just keep stopping, someday you'll quit for good. I believe for most that making a plan is the best way. ...get a calendar, pick a special date just for you! One that will mean the most to you. Then start planning. Decide if you want to use the patches, gum, or other aids, and make plans for what to do when the craving hits. Both times I quite were very stressful times... like my divorce, and my dh's double organ transplants. I know sounds crazy, my life was consumed with so much more than cigarettes, that I didn't have time to worry about them. I was so surprised with some of the side effects I developed when I quite. I was talking to my daughter one day about this "noisy/feeling" in my head. That I "felt" a zipping sound in my brain. Especially when I was driving and would turn my head from side to side to look for traffic. I told her how concerned I was that it might be something serious. She laughed. She said "Mom, that's withdrawals...I get it when I stop using dope"! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() WTH? I don't use dope!
But sure enough my doc told me it was a withdrawal symptom! Like I said... ...just keep on stopping, you'll quit when your time comes. Keep On Truckin' Lady |

Hey Savannah~
Just keep those quitting thoughts in your head and keep trying. I can't tell you how many times I have quit only to pick up at day 5 or so. My husband is a smoker, so I know how hard it is to do when you live with one. One of my biggest fears with quitting and actually biggest concern now that I have is our lack of interaction together. Seriously. We had some of our best conversations when we would go outside to have a smoke. "Let's go have a smoke". "Let's go smoke and talk about it.". We would talk about our days, our kids, our plans. Now we don't do that. We hardly talk at all. And I can't stand to smell him when he comes in. In all honesty, it's been roughest part. But I figure if all we have is cigarettes then it is a pretty sad relationship. I did ask him to make sure to keep the cigarettes out of complete site and to chew gum or rinse with mouth wash when he came in and not to smoke in my vehicle. He has been really good about everything but the gum or mouthwash. Oh...the other motivator for me was I went and had a facial at a spa and the gal could tell I was a smoker by the condition of my skin! ACK! YIKES! You are young enough that you won't see damage yet, but keep at it and you will! |
