Once a meth addict, always a meth addict. Is it true? Please note, I am talking about meth addiction ONLY. I was a meth addict for 13 years. I am now a former meth addict. I happen to believe that with meth, by virtue of it's uncanny addictive qualities, anyone is susceptible to it's unyielding grasp. What are your thoughts on this?

There are people who can drink, but who are not alcoholics. In fact, only 10% of those who do try alcohol become alcoholics. But meth is different. And that's what I'm getting at. Here's why: I hear and read all this talk about addict behavior and I wonder about that. I mean, am I an addict still? Just because I got sucked into the meth world. Just because I got hooked on one of the most addictive substances out there. I don't know. I'm just thinking outloud. Thanks. I'm really curious about this all of a sudden. I don't know why.

How can one define another's thought process based on a bad period in their life? Like the 13 years I was addicted to meth. Do I still "think" like a meth addict? I think not. No, I know not. Anyway, that's where all of these questions are coming from. From reading about "addict thinking", and how much is attributed to that - that - I don't know - that state of mind? Help!

Posts: 104 (05/15/08 17:47:47) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I was just reading your post and thought I had found something that indirectly could have an answer to your question.Meth topics on the main page all the way down to topics uncatigorized yet why you used meth.lot of good stuff.check it out.I dont know anyone that is or has only been a meth addict.Most if not all addicts will substitute something in its place.It doesnt have to be drugs either.I think but then again im a speed addict.used to work.But not anymore.confidence.pleasure insite.abilities.And being a person that lacked confidence in my self ad shy.It gave me all those things for a while.Atleast thats what a meth addict thinks.

I think everyone is a little bit different. I think "addict thinking" can be pretty much generalized with a whole lot of kinds of non-selfloving thoughts and justifications and denials. Could you do meth again without being addicted all over again? But unless you were doing some "addict thinking" why in the world would you want to ever do meth again? I'm still addicted to cigarettes....I use addict thinking a lot when I think about smoking. I recognize it as pure addict thinking.... and when I think about quitting....the addict mind takes over quickly. I'm not addicted to anything but smokes right now....maybe latte's but with 1/2decaf. I spose I might be sorta addicted to tv as I use it as a comfort..... I know of a few meth addicts who believe they were cured of their addiction or healed...... but I know a lot more who believe they are in recovery for life. I think everyone is a little bit different. luv

By enamored, I mean those people who try it and immediately think this could become their best friend. I know a few people who claim they use "recreationally" and perhaps they do in their minds but to the rest of us they seem crazy as bedbugs. I have a friend who says she just uses to "get something done" but the drug man cut her off last week because even he thinks she needs to quit. She is about to lose her mind trying to find another connection. There is one thing I do know and that is meth is a different animal. There are those who say that meth gets too much credit but I think meth doesn't get enough credit. It has a power to destroy unmatched by anything else I've ever seen and this is coming from someone with an alcoholic brother, sister dead from opiate abuse, and meth addicted ex husband. Watching my ex slip away was the worst and I can honestly say my sister was the same person when she died as she was as a youngster. My brother is the same person he always was but my ex is definitely not the same person he was and I'm not the only one who thinks so. Even members of his own family say he is not the same person they knew for years. My kudos to all the ex addicts on this site. You have beat impossible odds and give me hope for the meth users I know.

YES! I still contend that my dear sweet granny, God rest her soul, could do meth and become an addict. It's not about being cursed with a predisposed behavior pattern, it's about the highly, insidious addictive quality of meth. Period. And I have to say that this is only my thinking. I am not a scientist or a chemist or a psychologist or an expert in any sense of the word, except that I was addicted to meth, which destroyed me as a person and my life as a whole.

When I was using I was a meth addict. Since I stopped using. Among other things. I am an x-meth addict. However I am well capable of becoming a meth addict again. If I choose to be. But I am confident that as long as I dont want to be a meth addict. I wont be. One thing about being a x-meth addict. If it happens again it wont be because I didnt know any better. Been their done that. You know what I mean. Thats my 2 cents on me. Greg
