If you're in the late stages of hep C, does that mean that you aren't going to bounce back? You just look so young and healthy by your picture. It just doesn't make sense that in this day and age someone like you (young and presumably healthy) should fall victim to such a demise. Why is it that people like Pamela Anderson can still drink alcohol and live very comfortably with the disease and others can't? It doesn't seem fair that she can basically live like she doesn't have it and others suffer miserably. What medical services is she getting that others don't? I ask out of the utmost respect, even if I can't demonstrate it in my writing.

I guess not old though. My docs think I picked up Hep in the 80s from homemade tats. I sat and did a tat with friends when I was like 16. Little crosses on our hands. One dude was an IV user, much older than the rest of us. I have my good days and bad days. I guess I could post a pic of myself on a bad day, but that doesn't make much sense to keep seeing my mug when I feel at my lowest. I don't know why hep affects some and not others. I have two friends who say they have it and don't have symptoms, they both drink and everything too. I have a couple of cousins who have died from the symptoms, one was doing time and released to die at home... so he wasn't drinking. Frank knew about his early on, he was one of those with us doing the tats. He partied still but quit in the end... still died though. I'm starting my 3rd round of treatment in July, was supposed to start this week... anyway. I know people who did 1 round of treatment and the virus count went to 0 and stayed there. Mine haven't done that... but I"m down to try again. Hair color and makeup do wonders... the shape of my face, my smile or the way my hair lays I doubt will change whether I'm sick or not. and if I have to croak, I do want to look good... what's wrong with that. Shoot, when I found out I was sick I started letting my hair grow because I think it's pretty long. I think I wear short hair well too... just God must have given me curls for a reason and I really do think He'd be upset if I reached the pearly gates without the hair he meant me to have... honestly, that's why I've let it grow. My hair is actually longer now, that pic is a little old. I might have a new wrinkle, but the twinkle in my eyes is still there. Hey!!

If I don't keep my weight on the meaty side, and I go through a bad bout, I'll lose hella weight and I feel like all sickly skinny and stuff. So I try to stay in shape but I do make it a point to stay on the slightly overweight side. It's actually not easy because I'm small naturally and I never was overweight... I liked being in shape when I was young. ok... I'm done explaining why I look the way I do and don't look like I'm all sickly... which should be a good thing. Only at KCI... LMFAO!!!!

Sorry that end sentence was all you could find to comment on. Pamela Anderson is rich. She eats well, which isn't cheap. The meds for treatment are almost 3,000.00 a month. She probably could afford to continue treatment and possible didn't have side effects that created breaks in it. I don't know if I'll bounce back to the point where I was before being diagnosed. I'm hoping I do. I don't know who's presuming I'm healthy. you said... "someone like you (young and presumably healthy) " I don't consider myself on the brink of death, that's for sure. I have done a photo journal of my journey through this illness. The only one I've shared that with on these boards is a good friend of mine.... it's a bit personal. I plan to beat this, settle with a guy of my nature and live into an old ripe age. The photo journal is for me to look back on.... I plan on beating this.

Some are treatment resistant - some people can have treatment and be declared "Cured." I have a friend who actually has HIV and Hep C - her Hep C has never returned, she had one round of interferon treatment about four years ago, and her doctor is using the word "Cure" in her case as far as her Hep C is concerned. She also has HIV - she is a "Big Girl," looks very healthy, and you would never guess in a million years that she had HIV or ever had Hep C. Another friend of mine just went through a year of interferon and it just about took her out. She was on disability for a year, and she is done with treatment and going back to work now. A third friend has hep C, had treatment with one type of interferon and antiviral meds (Riboviran, I think?) and she suffered... she got horribly anemic (She was literally gray,) she has osteoporosis as well and broke her foot just stepping out of the car, and broke her ankle on another occasion, she lost a TON of weight, but after the treatment, her viral load was "Undetectable." Now, a little more than a year later, her viral load is HIGHER than it was before she did the first round of interferon, and she is on round two with a different, newer type of interferon treatment. This woman has my ultimate respect - she continued to work throughout ALL of this. She's tough. That being said, the patient I was talking about doesn't have Hep C. She has alcoholic Cirhossis, because unfortunately, her mom was her primary caretaker her entire life - and allowed her to drink for many years. That is why she has hepatic encephalopathy now - cirhossis, not hepatitis.

He has been incredibly lucky - he didn't have symptoms (that I know of) for about 18 of those years (of course he is fantastic at hiding any feeling that is not "ta dah!") and he did his first round of Interferon a few years ago, it really worked him up something hard, but he seems to be doing okay today. I think his attitude has made a big difference as far as his health is concerned. This guy likes beer more than anyone I know (short of maybe me or my had, haha) and he cut down his drinking to almost nothing - maybe a couple beers a month when I was living with him. He just lived every day as if beating it was already in the cards, and he was just going along with it, no questions asked. Sure attitude isn't EVERYTHING, you can't will yourself out of being sick, but I think you can "set yourself up" to survive the ugly stuff if you see it as the road to beating it. Just like getting clean, sorta. Hugs to you Chris, you always seem to keep your chin up.

I don't drink anymore. My doctor said I could have a glass of wine a day but I don't. I do work from home and I'm wrapping up the last few classes on my second degree. I take care of myself. When I feel depression coming I fight it hard. My health has gone through a lot of changes... I'm still ok though. I've collapsed a few times working, so I know I have to take it how I can when I can. I won't waste an employers time asking for a job I know I can't physically commit to at this time. I ain't no weenie.. I've been tough. I lost a LOT of my hair on the last round, some of my vision too. I'm not dependent on pills to stay upbeat, I will take them to counteract the symptoms of treatment. My counts went to 0 once and jumped up too. This will be round 3 for me. If it's not effective, I doubt I'll do anymore and go the nutrition route and see how that fares for me. I already know treatment kicks my azz.. I've worked and gone to school on treatment... after collapsing, I thought it best I work from home... closer to my bed or couch or a pillow, cause let me tell you.. the ground is HARD!!! I know someone has to know what it feels like right before passing out... not buzzed. Ever been strangled?? I have... it's like that. blinks

You probably just need to start going independent suz... what's up with classes. You know they have grants. I saw a printer that would print huge things... yep, shower curtain size too. That's one thing I don't like about EZ, or Yuku boards, you really can't tell who is responding to what! (especially once the thread gets off topic). I like Delphi Forums for several reasons. One you don't have to go through all post in a thread to get to the new ones. It also show in each post which post your are responding to...kind of like the #17 that I posted above. I actually got the rest of them out, and I hung a few over the fireplace, and I think I may hang a few more of them there now. Some of them are actually a little bit scary looking, but to me it makes them more beautiful and interesting. I went back to work this week and that lady has been discharged She got much better and got to go back to where she was living before. Hopefully they will leave her meds the way they are this time so she doesn't have to come back again.

I painted em and glued them to the closed side of the box....like 3 tulips on a podium. .....it never dawned on me it was suppposed to be like a window box! LOL! they said come out and bring your creation.. .....and mine was the only one, not inside the wooden box... everyone in the room just stared at it. .........and said....wow suzie, that's different. The masks were made at the outpatient place I used to work at. We're getting a ping pong table soon... I hope I will have time to actually PLAY with the patients at this job. Sitting down at this job is questionable most days, so playing ping pong probably isn't going to happen too often, either. I love ping pong.
