Guys, my boyfriend hates every cell of his body ... He was an actor a great stage actor ... He started using meth six months ago because of his depression caused by the fact that he had to stay away from theater for some reasons. A few days ago he told me the whole thing and today is the 10th day he's not taking Meth anymore. No one knows it, except a priest and me. He doesn't want anyone to know since he hates himself and is embarrassed ... The person he used to be would have never done such a thing. He says the period of recovery is 14 days and he's doing it on his own. Furthermore he's going to work everyday! Can you guys please tell me what to do to help him ? how to make it easier? What things to do and to give him ? I'm really dying ... His behavior has changed . He's really aggressive and I'm thinking all these times we've been in a relationship he's been using it (we've been in a relationship for 4 months now) wondering whether he was real or not, whether his feelings were true and he really meant it when he said he was in love with me . He's lost about 20 kilos :O:O what should I do to help him gain weight ? Can he stop using meth on his own ? with no help ? what things am I gonna encounter ? how should I treat him ? What should I do? please help me, guys ... I've read some articles about meth so I know some signs of detoxification. He tends to be sleepy and depressed and feels as if his mind can't perceive anything. Like a total bonehead . Sometimes there are some weak signs of hallucination he says ... Today he told me that it's getting worse everyday and that he also suffers from corporal pain How shall I treat him ? What should I do to help him ? I don't know what to do ... I want him to come back to life ... P.S: How can I know it when he's using meth again ? What are some other signs of being through the process of detoxification or using meth again ?

I'm glad he's realized it's a bad thing and is quitting. But, he really should be going to some sort of meetings or SOMETHING. Just my opinion. I have no idea what you can "do" for him as far as giving him anything. He needs to drink lots of fluids, rest and EAT. I had to take care of my husband a few times when he was coming off a bender. He just needed rest and food basically. Honestly, don't try and make this "easy" on him -- but be supportive. He needs to fight his way through this so that hopefully the "bad memory" will make him never want to do the crap again. Good luck. You should probably get yourself some support too. It ain't easy loving a meth user......and you have not known him very long. I'm not sure how much you can trust or believe. What is "corporal pain"?????

What things to do and to give him ? You can do very little other than encourage him to do whatever it takes. Physically it will help for him to have balanced meals with plenty of protein, and to have some light activity daily (walk around the block or more). Mentally/emotionally this is going to be rough. It takes the body a long time to repair the damage done inside the brain while high. 14 days is only the tip of the iceberg. He is anxious, aggressive, and easily angered because he has no other choice -- this is in direct correlation to the chemical imbalance in his brain caused by using. It will feel worse before it feels better. How shall you treat him? That is your choice, but just realize that YOU and YOUR ACTIONS are not responsible for him and his. You'll know he's using if he suddenly feels much better. You've been in a relationship with him for 4 months? I honestly and truly believe you do not know this man. He has been using the entire time. You may think that you do, but you will find out in time that you do not. I can't in good faith recommend you do much of anything other than tell him to call you when he's got a year clean and sober. But you came to the right place, so welcome. Read, read, read and educate yourself. Worry about taking care of YOU and try to get him to come here. Get savvy about meth addiction so you will the signs and know how to steer clear of it in the future. After only 4 months, his using the entire time, your not being married, (and I am assuming you have no children together,) I would take the advice of the others and just let him go and maybe tell him to call you after a year or two of sober time. If he got the impression that 14 days is recovery time, he has a rude awakening! Read some of the archives here of the men and women who stayed and tried to "help" their addicts. For me, it almost cost me my life, and it did cost me everything I ever worked for or owned. In my middle age, (with numous health issues,) I have had to start all over again in a totally new environment with a few suitcases and a carry-on. Of course, God, (my Higher Power,) has a plan and purpose for me, so I am sticking with Him and continue to pray for the addicts I love - that is, from 3,000 miles, (and 6,000 miles respectively,) and an ocean away. I would'nt suggest feeding it more meth tho. then it can't grow. ...it takes the same amt of time to regain himself, as the amount of time he used. In fact, I'm almost positive you got the "polished" truth...THATS why he SO sick, and fuctup. ........if you aren't married, I'd run my ass off. and actor on meth has gotta be a slippery, deceptive, dangerous person. (if he cheats, or still uses, there is danger, meth = devastation for all involved) Being a functional addict for 2 to 10 years.... (.....meaning, he appeared to be fine, without issue, and hid his dope well, with his excellent acting skills..) ...........................is not unusual for us. another factor: the curse of the cheetah. ....whatever hew accuses you of doing.. is what he did .....or he wouldn't think that. ok? .......head the warning. I'm no psychic, but i am VERY intuative. ...............but, the universe has VERY accurate reflections in it's mirrors. and this doesnt sound like no 6 month run to me. ......you'd have to be very weak mentally to begin with......and I betcha, he's not. I bet, he is or was, playing you like a violin. .......and now he's "acting" like he was'nt....and is truthful enough to tell you about he "6 months" .....when in reality it could be anywhere from a year, but more likely 2, to 10 years he's been doing it.... ....If THATS the case....it's gonna be BRUTAL. ........and if he's working.........he's still using.... if that is the case. .....and that "feels" closer to the truth than what you told us he said. edited 2000 times for spelling, .....when I get these "feelings" I gotta keep typing....and get it out fast. He's given me all his salary this month so far since he panics when he has money . He feels tempted to go buy meth again so that's how he's trying to stay away ... "What is "corporal pain"????? It's been 3 years he hasn't been onstage and he told me he'd been usin meth for 6 month. and before telling me he told it to a priest and then me and he says I'm the only reason he's trying to detox that thing. I don't know ... I don't know whether to believe him or not...But to be honest I've been trying to do anything I could in the past 10-11 days ... Giving him support emotionally and getting him everything I thought his body needs ... oh, and something else, years ago he said he tried different drugs just to have experienced them !!! but he was never addicted to any of them . and he teaches languages . and at first (10 days ago) he was in bed all day long and couldnt run any of his classes except 1. but lately(since 3 days ago) he's been running 2 or 3 a day ... What should I do ? I donno ... I know I can't trust him ... I'm left high and dry .

Sounds like he's a natural at acting! 14 days, huh? This forum wouldn't even exist if the 'period of recovery' was 14 days. The drug is only a symptom of deeper underlying issues, and if those issues aren't addressed, well, sooner or later he will use again. Abstinence only is not recovery. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. I might not know him, but I can't leave him now atleast looking at is as a friend and even not a girlfriend ... He needs my help ... There is plenty of help available, rehab, 12 step groups, outpatient, etc etc etc. Those of us closest to the addict are the least likely to be able to help. before telling me he told it to a priest and then me and he says I'm the only reason he's trying to detox that thing That's a cleverly disguised barbed hook that the addict throw out to the loved ones. 'You're the only reason I'm trying to stay clean.' We are all human, and therefore subject to error. Sooner or later you'll be the whipping post for his addiction because he will use again and throw the blame on you. I spent 5 long miserable years with a meth-addicted husband, and believe me, in his mind, it was always my fault. Addiction will drive you to insanity, and you don't even have to use. The addict and his addiction will suck you dry, rob you of any self-esteem, and roll over you like a steam roller without a second thought. When I got clean, there was no one left to clean up my messes and enable me. There was no one to get clean for but myself. If you want to bear the burden of being his 'reason' for supposedly getting clean, if you want to walk on eggshells all the time attempting to be his sole source of support, then fasten your seatbelt. Keep the first aid kit handy for your battered soul/heart you will end up with.

It won't do any good to "have it out with him". And, he might just get violent with you. BTDT too many times. Take care of yourself and yes, you might need to finish it with him. Atleast until/unless he gets some REAL help for this. It's very serious. Something he's not going to just be able to blow off. He is going to have to take it very seriously. If you loved yourself first, would you want to help him pretend? Would you want to put yourself through another fight with a meth addict? If you love yourself first, he won't have to worry about you or be able to use you as an excuse. This is the tricky part where those closest to the meth addict are usually the worst at "helping" them and end up Enabling the addict to play games and pretend because they have an audience who love's them. They enjoy performing for a loving audience......we always clap even if the show is crappy. Cheering is a tricky thing to do. Better left for neutral people. I only say that from experience. It's like cheering for your sweetheart in a race......if he gets 3rd or 4th, and he's thinking like an addict, 3rd or 4th is reason for quitting racing completely and then the cheerleader has no purpose. I feel like the best thing a loved one can do while the addict is contemplating quitting(and he hasn't quit yet) is to step back and give plenty of room for the addict to get to the bottom where they can hopefully see their own way to recovery from a nasty mean evil addiction. You will get blamed much more than you will get loved for your "helping" luv

Now that I'm writing this tears are all over my face but I have no other choice ... He might be able to make it or he might not ... I gotta move on ... I'm sorry that you're in this situation. Perhaps there is an ounce of comfort in knowing that you didn't love him. You could not possibly have loved him. He was high or in some process of crashing the entire time you knew him. You have no idea what he's like. You haven't met him yet. You were tricked. You were given a fake version of him to fall for. One that can not be kept up for long. You got a raw deal. A band hand. It's not fair at all. But it is what it is. And now you know. This exact thing is WHY people date, and should date for a good long period of time. People are not always what we think they are, and can not always be what we need them to be. So now you know. Now you can go forward having all the facts.

He didn't love himself so really it Was a Facade. But there is no beating myself up anymore......it's a good lesson to learn to see that just loving is not all that life entails. The whole action of loving-the whole thing, is much fuller than just the feeling. The action parts are what fulfills the dreams. The living and sharing life together. A meth addict Cannot Share their life because they don't own it. I'm ok even though my addict didn't get clean or into recovery .....he's in jail and perhaps much closer to entering recovery now, but my joy and love is still inside me waiting to share with someone. I didn't lose it all and I've recovered what I gave away. luv

Learn to Let Go How does one avoid loss in the first place? Contrary to popular belief, it's not attachment that causes loss--attachment feels fine. It's detachment that hurts. Learn to let go. Some suggest that to avoid loss, one should never be attached to anything. They give the example of a hand in water: when the hand is removed from the water, the hand leaves no impression. These people say the reason the hand leaves no trace in the water is because the water is not attached to the hand. On the contrary, while the hand is in the water, it is very attached to the hand--surrounding, enfolding, and embracing it. Allow yourself to experience life as fully as water experiences the hand; then, as completely, let go. Yes, the water leaves a little of itself on the departing hand, as we leave a little of ourselves with the people and things we touch. For the most part, however, when it comes time to go, let go. The hand can no more hold the water than the water can hold the hand. As soon as one "wants" to leave, there is no attachment. Hand and water both accept the inevitability, and part "clean."
