Let's call him Jim. He called the house last night. He was my husband's friend from the rehab he went to in 2006. Him and this guy got to be good
friends and tried to help each other stay clean after they both got out. They ended up relapsing together. Then Jim (again) lost everything and decided to
check himself into a 9 month halfway house. He just got out 2 weeks ago. He said he was calling to see how my husband was doing. I told him not good. We
talked for about 15 minutes. I told him he could call my husband's parent's house. He was like "I don't know if I'll do that". I
am sure because he's scared my husband would influence him to do drugs. Which who am I kidding? He probably would.
I can't tell you how much of a reality check it was talking to him. He was over at our house a lot when my husband was doing good (when they both were doing good). My husband was so different back then. Kind, gentle, understanding, loving. Jim was SHOCKED at the things I told him. How my husband had pawned our wedding rings, and alot of other things. How he had beaten me up and gotten arrested. You could really hear the shock and disappointment in his voice. It made me realize how desensitized to all of the crazy behavior I have become. Honestly I don't remember that person my husband was back then. Because I've been living with the drugged out person for so long. And, allowing myself to be abused for so long.
Anyway, it was a HUGE reality check.
